Winter in Melbourne evokes thoughts of cold, wet and windy days. However, the weather won’t stop the fun of Social 7s for the next upcoming competition.
To be played under the roof at the state-of-the-art facility at the Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC), in East Bentleigh, the competition will be held on Friday mornings from 10.30am – 11.30am. It will run for five weeks, from 15 July to 12 August. The centre is next to the Glen Eira Moorabbin Softball Association.
The rules for Social 7s, Softball Australia’s new version of softball that is fast, fun and easy to play, will be slightly modified to adjust to the indoor courts, but many features of the game that is loved around the country will still be there.
The game is ideal for all abilities, with the emphasis on having fun. For those who haven’t played softball for a number of years, this is the perfect way to get back into it. For summer players, this is a great way to start preparing for the new season. All equipment is provided, so all you have to do is come ready to play!
While the timeslot may best suit parents who work part-time or aren’t working, the program is open to all males and females aged 14 and over. Teams are seven-a-side, with a maximum of three males on the field per team, and teams can be all female. You don’t need to have a full team of seven to be able to play – you can register on your own or with friends and a team will be found for you.
GESAC also has childcare services available, to cater to those with young children.
The cost for the five- week program is $50, with an early-bird price of $40 if you register by the end of June.
