Open Women – Day 2

Moving into day two of the tournament and teams have now played four games apiece, with Qld Heat the only team remaining undefeated and atop the ladder. The reigning champions edged out their NSW rivals in a close contest (2-1) easily the most highly anticipated game so far.

The Firestars backed up their first loss with a convincing win (8-0) over the Vic Titans in the evening game out on Diamond 3, and stay in touch siting second going into Day 3. Three teams now sit on one win, with the Titans and Starz both picking up their first wins against ACT and WA respectively.

Today marks the halfway point as teams close out round one of the draw with their first games of the day.

Standout Individual Performances

Qld’s Chelsea Forkin, was the hero in the Gilley’s Shield final rematch as she had 3 hits from her 3 AB’s to knock in her teams only two runs for the game. A homer early in the first set the tone, only to hit a single in the 3rd to bring speedster Janice Blackman home.

Vic Titans international import Greta Cecchetti (Italy) aided her team in their first win for the tournament with an almost flawless pitching display in Game 9. Greta gave up only one hit to ACT’s Diamonds, scalping 7 SO’s. Backed by some solid offence the Titans were able to keep the 3rd placed Diamonds at bay.
