It was a hectic day of high calibre international women’s softball at Blacktown International Sportspark in NSW on Saturday with all four teams competing in triple headers playing each other.
Japan remained on top of the ladder with a perfect 5-0 record, but were challenged with 2-1 wins over both Aussie Green and Aussie Gold. In their first game of the day Japan belted New Zealand 13-0 and then faced the Aussie Green, coming from behind to take out the game, 2-1 with the winning run coming in the bottom of the 7th. In the night cap, Japan needed an extra inning to defeat Aussie Gold, 2-1.
Aussie Green added to their win total defeating Aussie Gold, 4-3 then NZ, 5-3 to ensure they finished the round robin section of the weekend in second place and a berth in the Championship Final at 1.30pm against the unbeaten Japanese.
Both New Zealand and Aussie Gold enter Sunday with identical 1-4 records and, after completing the round robin at 11:00am, will play each other for 3rd place.
