Summer Slam coaches confirmed for second edition

Some of the best and brightest softball minds in the country have been confirmed for the second edition of the Summer Slam – Fully Loaded Softball to be played at Blacktown International Sportspark from 3-5 February 2020.

Returning to lead the Panthers is Travelodge Aussie Spirit Head Coach Laing Harrow who says the exciting format and atmosphere saw the players really open their shoulders up and enjoy themselves, he expects more of the same to begin a big year for softball in Australia.

“One of the biggest things we took from the Summer Slam was the level of enjoyment the girls got out of it,” said Harrow.

“It was exciting and I think it just had them there enjoying it and not feeling the pressure of international competition or representing their country or state, it’s a more of a relaxed environment.

“And it’s a great product, hopefully it’ll be another exciting few days in Sydney.”

Joining Harrow as a returning coach will be pitching genius Andrew Kirkpatrick who will attempt to lead the Fury to back-to-back titles after they defeated the Emeralds in a thrilling grand final back in February, a Bel White grand slam walk off the difference on the day.

Four new coaches will take the top job for the remaining four teams, headed up by Aussie Spirit legend Joyce Lester who will coach the Bandits.

Nicky Bacon moves from an Assistant Coach role to Head Coach of the Riot in 2020, former Australian representative Kym Tollenare heads up the Lightning and Nathan Jones, a current member of the Travelodge Aussie Spirit coaching staff, will lead the Emeralds in the tournament’s second staging.
