Softball Australia can confirm today four events/tours facilitated by the organisation have unfortunately been cancelled due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic.
The 2020 U23 National Championships and International Friendship Series were to be held at Redlands Softball Association from 5-11 July 2020, however, due to the current self-isolation restrictions in place by the Australian Federal Government, a number of teams for both tournaments have withdrawn.
Under the current climate, state teams for the National Championships and local/international teams for the Friendship Series are unable to prepare to the best of their ability, therefore forcing their withdrawal.
The U14 Girls’ Aussie Diamonds Tour to Mankato in the United States and U18 Women’s Futures Tour to Canada have also been cancelled.
With no indication of when the current travel restrictions in place by the Australian Federal Government combined with rising cases of COVID-19 internationally, there is no way the two tours could take place.
Softball Australia is putting the safety and welfare of both athletes, their families and staff at the forefront in making these decisions.
All relevant parties have been notified of the cancellations.
Should you have any further questions, please contact your relevant state office.
The Aussie Diamonds and Futures tour participants have been contacted directly.
