Stacey Porter Honoured at Testimonial Dinner

Published Wed 17 Aug 2022

The world’s most capped softball player Stacey Porter has been celebrated at a testimonial dinner in Brisbane.

The event took place last Saturday at the Mercure Pullman in Brisbane’s CBD, and was initiated by a small group that included past players who wanted to recognise Porter as one of Australia’s most decorated Softballers.

More than 130 people attended the function, which included a sit-down meal, guest speeches, and a presentation of art to Porter.

Eight members of the 2004 Athens team were present, including Peta Edebone, Natalie Titcume, and Marissa Carpadios, alongside current Australian players Stacey McManus, Taylah Tsitsikronis, Michelle Cox, and Tarni Stepto.

The night reflected on Porter’s career and what she has given to the sport over the last 30 years, from her early days playing softball in Tamworth, to her time at a state level for NSW, to her international representation and professional softball career in Japan.

Porter, who now resides in Brisbane and plays for the Panther Softball Club, was also presented with an Indigenous painting by artist Kylie Hall that depicts her softball journey.

20 painted softballs were purchased on the night, with the money raised donated by Porter to Play for a Cure, who is an ambassador for the charity.

Three-time Olympian and Softball Australia National Pathways Coordinator Brooke Wilkins attended the testimonial and said it was a night that celebrated, “her beginnings, her middles, and her ends.

“Stacey has been simply outstanding both on and off the field, and there are a lot of current players that aspire to be like her.

“While there might be plenty of athletes that have played exceptionally, Stacey's longevity, leadership, and the way she approaches the game makes her a standout. She is a once in a generation talent.”

Stacey Porter career highlights:

  • 446 games for Australia: 6x World Championships (3x bronze), 3x Olympic Games (1x silver, 1x bronze).
