Fremantle Rebels highlight #BackOnBase success

Published Thu 17 Jun 2021

Following the announcement of the inaugural #BackOnBase Grants program success, Softball WA’s Fremantle Rebels detail how they took full advantage of the initiative.

The Rebels had one of the most successful initiatives in the country, attracting over 20 new registered members, along with three coaches through their biggest ever Junior ‘Have a Go Day’.

Using a portion their grant to fund a social media advertising campaign, the Rebels put the word out to their local community and attracted just shy of 50 registered participants to the day.

By executing a fun and engaging day, the Rebels were able to capture the attention of their participants. They had current players and coaches on hand, including current and former Australian and State players and coaches in Nathan Jones, Leah Parry, Brendon O’Byrne, Jack Burt, Shane Hughes and Andrew Havecroft.

Terrific ambassadors for the sport, the representatives facilitated drills exercises promoting fun and core skills, clearly paying off by the number of new members recruited.

The remainder of the Rebels grant was put towards supplying every participant a team cap, providing both a memento and ongoing promotion of their club to the community.

Their well-executed initiative has resulted in the largest number of teams in the Clubs’ history with seven lined up for the season, an increase of three full teams on last year.
