Future stars bring National Championships back to Victoria

Waverley will host generation next at Waverley when the U16 Boys’ & Girls’ National Championships take place from 4-10 January, 2020.

While Perth sees the established Travelodge Aussie Spirit stars and the Nation’s Capital is the venue for the current group of Aussie Steelers, Waverley will get a taste of what’s to come with Australian selectors keeping a keen eye on the diamonds across the week.

New South Wales, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia, the ACT and of course Victoria are all represented in both championships with the Boys competing for the Arthur Allsopp Shield currently held by Queensland while the Girls battle for the Esther Deason Shield, New South Wales the defending champions.

While National Titles are on the line, the week presents an opportunity for the best and brightest up and coming stars in the game to put their best foot forward to Australian representative honours with Boys’ and Girls’ squads to be selected following the week.

Those selected will compete in the 2020 International Friendship Series, played in conjunction with the U23 National Championships, the tournament is an important development tool for Softball Australia to continue pathways from high performing juniors through to elite players at the highest level.

In the interim, these players will also form the nucleus of Australia’s junior squads to compete in the 2022 WBSC Junior World Cups.

Softball Victoria will livestream the final game on Diamond one each night with the full schedule available at softball.org.au.
