Softball Australia is pleased to announce a group of 30 players to make up the 2020 Australian U23 Men’s squad with an aim to compete at the 2021 U23 Men’s Softball World Cup.
The purpose of selecting the Squad at this point in time is to provide the players with a training program from Australian U23 Men’s Head Coach David Metekingi and to also to give those players clarity that they are under strong consideration for the 2021 Australian U23 Men’s team.
In 2021, Softball Australia national selectors will attend both the U23 Men’s National Softball Championship and the Open Men’s National Softball Championship. Following these events, a group of 30 players will be selected for the 2021 Australian U23 Men’s Squad.
At this stage, and subject to COVID-19 restrictions, the Squad of 30 players will be invited on a tour to New Zealand, from 8-15 March. The Squad will be split into two teams and participate at the NZ Club Championships. Following the tour, a final team of 16 players will be selected for the 2021 WBSC U23 Men’s World Cup.
The first-ever edition of the U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup, created to bridge the gap between U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup and the senior national teams, will be played in Argentina, in the latter half of the year, and features the world’s best players from 12 countries in the newly created U-23 category.
