The O35 National Championship player draft opening

Published Thu 09 May 2024

On the 7th of May, the over-35 National Championship player draft begins and is open for ten days, closing on the 17th of May.  The tournament will run from the 9th - 14th of July, being played at Blacktown, NSW.

Last year’s tournament, also held in Blacktown, was a huge success with Western Australia winning it all for the men’s and New South Wales for the women’s.

Players are eligible to enter the draft under the following conditions:

  1. An athlete stood for selection in their state, was not selected, and is endorsed for the draft by their state.
  2. A player is cleared to another state after the eligibility date and has not had the opportunity to try out for the state they were registered with as at the eligibility date due to trials occurring after the date the player cleared.
  3. The player’s state is not entering a team in the event.
  4. Ex-patriot players: only ex-patriot players resigning interstate and released for the draft are eligible to enter negotiations with the state of origin prior to the draft. This is the only circumstance where contact can be made with a player nominating for the draft prior to the conduct of the draft.

Players born in 1989 or older as of the 31st of December 2023 are eligible for the O35 National Championship.
