National Championships Umpiring Information

Each year National Championships are held around Australia in the following categories:

  • Under 16 Boys/Girls
  • Under 18 Men/Women
  • Under 23 Men/Women
  • Open Men/Women
  • Over 35 Men/Women
  • Additional National Events include U14’s Regional and International Friendship Series.

Each year, umpires  can nominate their availability for consideration for national appointment by completing the application form as outlined below.

This process is to be completed if you wish to attend in the following roles:

  • Nationally accredited umpire (currently level 5 or higher)
  • State accredited umpire (currently level 2 or higher)
  • Candidate umpire (currently a level 4 or 5)

The purpose of the National Championships includes, but is not limited to:

  • providing opportunities for participation in elite competition
  • contributing to player, coach, umpire and statistician identification and development pathways
  • providing interstate competition at both age-grade and open-grade
  • providing selection opportunities for higher honours and selection in national teams
  • encouraging participation, to enhance the growth of the game
  • providing opportunities for financial gain and increasing the profile of softball in Australia

2024 Summer of Softball events

Softball Australia is calling for umpire applications for the upcoming 2024 Summer of Softball events being held in December 2023 and January-February-March 2024.

U19 Men’s & U18 Women’s National Championships 16th-21st January 2024 Perth (WA)
U14 Boys & Girls Regional Tournament** 24th-28th January 2024 Hawker (ACT)
U23 Men’s National Championship 30th  Jan-4th Feb 2024 Hume (VIC)
Open Men’s National Championship 5th-10th March 2024 Adelaide (SA)
O35 Men’s & Women’s National Championships*** 9th-14th July 2024 Blacktown (NSW)

*Level 4 Umpires are encouraged to apply for U16 National Championships. Appointment to these Championships will be dependent on application numbers.

**Level 2 and 3 umpires are encouraged to apply for U14 Regional Championships.

***O35 National Championships expressions of interest will be called for in early February 2023.

Event dates:
Event dates are correct at the time of applications opening. Softball Australia reserves the right to adjust dates.

Event nominations:

  1. Umpires are requested to advise availability:
    1. The number of weeks in December
    2. The number of weeks in January-February
    3. The total number of weeks for both December and January-February if applicable.
  2. Umpires will NOT be required to nominate the Championship they prefer, and appointments will be made based on the umpire’s level, experience and the requirements for the Championship(s).
    1. We understand some umpires may not be available for a particular week in January and we ask you provide this information, with explanation in the comment section of the application.

Application:

Umpires must complete the online application form by 5pm Friday 11th August 2023.

Prior to commencing your application please ensure you have the following information ready:

  • 2023/24 Registration completed through RevSport (please contact your Club, Association and/or State to ensure you are registered in the RevSport system)
  • 2023 Australian Rules Assessment result
  • Updated activity diary (1st May 2022 – 31st July 2023)
  • Development plan (if you intend to present as a candidate)
  • Medical Information
  • Play by the Rules ELearning Certificate (Child Protection & Safe Guarding and Harassment & Discrimination)
  • WWCC/WWVP/Blue Card

    Prior to completing your EOI, please ensure your RevSport member profile is up to date to include your Working with Children (or member state equivalent) information. You can log into your RevSport profile via the Softball Australia website.

  • Read the Softball Australia Official Code of Conduct
  • New Profile Photo
    • Please note the profile photo requirements are:
      • New Blue off-diamond travel shirt (or blue on-diamond if you do not have a travel shirt)
      • No hat/cap
      • Outside in front of some green foliage
      • Without squinting or shadows
      • Photo taken from chest up, with some space above your head to allow for program specifications

The application form will only be accessible through your RevSport login details and a members only registration.

Once all applications have been received by Softball Australia, all applications will be sent to the State Directors of Umpiring (SDU’s) for approval, then the NUC Executive will determine the 2024 Summer of Softball Appointments.

Announcements:
It is planned to announce the appointments of the 2024 Summer of Softball Series by mid-September 2023.

Umpire Levy:
Umpires attending the 2024 Summer of Softball (including Dec 2023) will be required to pay a levy towards the cost of attending an event. 

Each umpire will pay only once regardless of the number of tournaments to which the umpire is appointed. 

The levy for the 2024 Summer of Softball is TBC. Softball Australia will invoice you after all appointments have been confirmed. Payment plans are available; please contact the NUC Executive and we can discuss options.

Umpire Activity Log

An electronic Umpire Activity Log has been developed and is available for immediate use. When applying for National appointments, submission of Umpire Activity Logs will only be accepted using this tool. Any umpire who has been using their own Excel spreadsheet can, with a little knowledge and care, copy and paste the relevant columns.
