Under 18 Men’s World Cup Team Announcement

Published Sat 01 Jul 2023

It’s a very exciting day for sixteen young players who have been named in the Junior Steelers team to contest the WBSC U18 Men’s World Cup in Mexico in November.

“I am excited for the athletes that now form the 2023 Junior Steelers,” said Junior Steelers Head Coach, Adam Rindfleish.

“Selection to the team is a testament to dedication, perseverance and exceptional skills. The tireless efforts in training, countless hours of practice, and passion for the sport have paid off.

World Cups are the pinnacle for our sport and this team will now face off against the best players on the planet.  With hard work and determination, I believe we have the team to challenge for the title of world champion.”

Players were selected based on their performances at two key selection events; the 2023 U19 national championships in January and the U19 men’s national training/selection camp which took place in Sydney in June.

“There was a competitive but supportive atmosphere around the playing group at the recent training camp,” said National Pathways Manager Clare Humberstone. “The highlight of the Junior Steelers program is the opportunity to play in the U18 World Cup at the end of the year.

However, all players who attended the camp were given the opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches in Australia and went home with a technical and physical program that will stand them in good stead for their ongoing development as a softballer.”

The team will be supported to prepare for the tournament by coaches in their home state and by the Junior Steelers coaches collectively, using a blend of face-to-face coaching, video analysis and regular online connection.

The Junior Steelers will come together in early November in Australia for training and warm-up games, before flying to Mexico for final preparations ahead of the World Cup, which takes place 11-19 November 2023.

“Australia has a rich history in this age group with many medals won. The athletes and teams that have represented before have paved the way for the 2023 team to emulate and be inspired by. I am sure that this group of players will be outstanding ambassadors for their families, our sport, and our country.

I look forward to working with all the athletes and staff!”
