Two more countries punch tickets to WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals in Redcliffe 2027

Two more nations have secured their place at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027 in Redcliffe, joining host nation Australia, and Group A qualifiers, Canada and Chinese Taipei on softball’s biggest stage.

World No. 1 Japan confirmed their qualification at Group Stage B in Lima, Peru, finishing top of the standings before claiming the tournament title. The defending world champions remained unbeaten throughout the event, reinforcing their status as one of the sport's premier nations and securing their place in Redcliffe next April.

Japan's qualification adds another world-class contender to the Finals field, with the reigning champions set to arrive in Australia determined to defend their crown.

World No. 3 Puerto Rico secured the second qualification berth after a determined campaign in Lima. The Caribbean nation pushed Japan all the way in the qualification game before rebounding later the same day with a victory over Venezuela in the Repechage Game. Their resilience earned them a place at the Finals, where they will join the world's best teams in Redcliffe in 2027.

Softball Australia Chief Executive Officer Sarah Loh congratulated the newly qualified teams and highlighted the calibre of competition building towards the Finals in Redcliffe.

The qualification process is demonstrating the strength and depth of women’s softball internationally.

With each team that qualifies, the Finals field continues to take shape and the standard of competition continues to build. Fans can expect a highly competitive tournament featuring many of the sport’s leading nations and athletes.

We look forward to welcoming the qualified teams to Redcliffe and seeing the remaining places decided over the coming months.

Three places in the Finals field remain available, with two teams set to qualify directly through Group Stage C in Oklahoma City, USA, in September. The final berth will then be awarded through the WBSC wildcard process.

The WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals will be held in Redcliffe, Queensland, from 5-11 April 2027, with the winner securing direct qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
