First teams punch tickets to WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals in Redcliffe 2027

Canada and Chinese Taipei join host nation Australia in securing their spot for the WBSC Women's World Cup Finals, following the conclusion of Group Stage A in Prague, Czechia.
World No. 4 Canada became the first team to qualify for the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals 2027 with a nine-inning 8-7 win over No. 5 Chinese Taipei. Chinese Taipei then qualified second, with a 9-8 win over Italy.
Softball Australia CEO congratulated the teams on their way to the World Cup Finals.
"On behalf of Softball Australia and the Local Organising Committee, we look forward to welcoming Canada and Chinese Taipei to Redcliffe in April next year to compete for the ultimate prize.
“We are incredibly proud to be hosting this prestigious event in the City of Moreton Bay and to have the opportunity to showcase Australian hospitality to the global softball community.
“This tournament will be a landmark moment for our sport in this country, and we can't wait to welcome these talented teams and fans from around the world to experience everything the beautiful region has to offer."
Aussie Spirit fell just short to Italy in the semi-final, with the game decided 5-6 in the eighth inning.
Spirit Head Coach Kerrie Porter said the team's performance reinforced its belief that Australia can challenge the world's best, with valuable international competition providing critical preparation ahead of the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup 2027 in Redcliffe and the LA28 Olympic Games.
"We can compete with the top international teams, and we've got a group of athletes who are really determined,” she said.
“Every opportunity to play high-level international softball benefits our squad and team. These games give our athletes the experience they need to prepare for the World Cup and LA28.
“We're tracking nicely in our preparation for the World Cup in Redcliffe in 2027. We've shown real growth with this group, and I'm excited to see what the team can achieve in Oklahoma as we continue building towards the World Cup finals and facing the international competition head on.”
The WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals will be held in Redcliffe, Queensland from 5–11 April 2027, with the winner securing direct qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Additional qualifying nations will be confirmed as Group Stage play continues in Lima, Peru in July and Oklahoma City, USA in September this year.
