Softball Australia Appoints General Manager to Lead WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027

Following the announcement in August of Redcliffe, City of Moreton Bay, as the host city for the 2027 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals, Softball Australia has appointed Alex Dandanis as General Manager – 2027 Women’s Softball World Cup.
Alex joins Softball Australia from the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, where she served as Head of Impact and Engagement as well as previously with Netball Australia’s 2015 World Cup. With extensive experience in project management, stakeholder relations, strategic communications, and legacy initiatives, her leadership will be pivotal in delivering a world-class tournament that raises the sport’s profile nationally and globally.
Softball Australia CEO, Sarah Loh, welcomed the appointment:
“Hosting the 2027 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals presents a unique opportunity to showcase elite women’s sport on home soil and inspire new audiences. Alex’s experience and vision will help ensure the event leaves a lasting legacy for softball in Australia.”
In her new role, Alex will oversee all aspects of tournament delivery, including event management, marketing, sponsorship, broadcasting, leading the local organising committee, volunteer engagement, community outreach, and long-term impact planning.
Alex Dandanis said she was proud to lead preparations for the event:
“The WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals will bring global attention to Australia and elevate women’s sport. It’s an exciting chance to inspire future generations and build a strong legacy for softball, both locally and internationally. I’m looking forward to working with stakeholders at every level to deliver a memorable and impactful tournament.”
The Finals during 5-11 April 2027 will feature the world’s best softball athletes from the top eight countries and attract thousands of fans, offering major opportunities for communities, partners, and sponsors to connect with one of the premier events in international women’s sport.
Alex will commence her role on Monday, 13 October.
