The Australian Women’s Softball Team, Aussie Spirit, are in the thick of competition against world number six Chinese Taipei, with the International Softball Series at Redlands Softball Association producing a weekend of grit, flair, and fierce rivalry.
Four debutants stepped onto the diamond for the Spirit, making an immediate impact in a series that has showcased both resilience and talent.
Australia claimed both Saturday matchups in tightly fought contests before Chinese Taipei responded on a weather-disrupted Sunday to level the series.
Aussie Spirit Head Coach Kerrie Porter was pleased with her side’s efforts after day one. “We showed a lot of grit and determination, and I’m thrilled for the debutants who took their opportunity and stood up to the occasion.”

Game Recaps
Game 1: Aussie Spirit 2 defeated Chinese Taipei 1
Australia fought back from an early deficit to level the score at 1–1 in the third inning. Debutant Nicole Connacher delivered the game-winning hit in the ninth innings under international tie-break rules in front of her extended family. A victory that was extra sweet, with Connacher travelling to Ormiston the day prior, straight from completing her final exam in her university degree in Bachelor of Mathematics (Applied)/Bachelor of Commerce (Finance).
Game 2: Aussie Spirit 6 defeated Chinese Taipei 5
Veteran pitchers Kaia Parnaby and Ellen Roberts teamed up to shut down the Taipei hitters after they jumped to an early 5- 1 lead against the Spirit. Tamieka Whitefield, Shaylan Whatman, Alyssa Mighell led the Aussies’ run production in another come-from-behind victory.
Game 3: Chinese Taipei 9 defeated Aussie Spirit 2
On the second day of the series, Chinese Taipei hitters dominated the Australians from the beginning of the game, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. The Spirit used three pitchers throughout the game, including Parnaby, Kandra Lamb and Ellen Roberts, but they could not stop the Taipei hitters from collecting 16 hits en route to a 9-2 victory.
Game 4: Chinese Taipei 6 defeated Aussie Spirit 4
In what promised to be a close battle before the skies opened over the Redlands Softball fields, the Spirit went down 6-4 in a shortened game of five innings. Australia's middle order, Shaylan Whatman, Jenna Trim, and Kylie Steemers produced the offence for Australia, however the Aussie pitchers struggled to contain the Taipei hitters.

Looking Ahead
Coach Porter said the team has an eye to continued growth and long-term success, “We’re learning, adapting, and growing with every game, and I’m excited to see how the group responds in the final two matchups. The resilience we’re building now is the foundation for the legacy we want to create leading into 2027."
The series is tied with two wins each after four games in the six-game test series. The remaining two games will be on Tuesday, 25 November, from 2.00pm AEST and Wednesday, 26 November 11:00am AEST. Fans are encouraged to attend or tune in via Softball Australia TV.
