Summary: Under 16 Women

Queensland did everything they could with the opportunities they had on the rain-shortened Day 2, securing wins over Victoria (12-5) and the ACT (11-0). Sasha-May Flegler and Rhiannon Smith among the Queenslanders best batters throughout the morning.

NSW also shored up their top-spot on the ladder with a 13-1 win over Western Australia in their only game for the day. Brooke Thomas and Kirra Gilchrist impressive with the ball, giving up a single hit between them in their four innings pitched.

WA edged out South Australia earlier in the day in a tightly contested game. The Sandgropers led 7-2 after five innings before a late SA rally, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap, with WA holding on for a 7-5 win.

Day 3 What to Watch For: Under 16 Women

NSW are one strike away from completing a 15-0 win over Victoria, which will cement their place at the top of the standings at the end of round 2. ACT also hold a comfortable 8-5 lead over SA in their suspended game, and are closing in on their maiden win at this tournament.

NSW are undefeated so far in this tournament and are looking the team to beat. A shortened schedule has also virtually guaranteed them top spot and a double chance in finals. However, Queensland, WA, and Victoria must feel they can push the home team, and just need a break in the weather to give themselves another shot at top spot.

Summary: Under 16 Men

Queensland made the most of their two early games, with comprehensive wins over Victoria (12-6) and South Australia (15-0). Alex Duncalfe was especially impressive in the win over Victoria, scoring two runs, two hits, and two RBIS, while also throwing nine strikeouts in five innings pitched.

South Australia caused something of an upset in the other game on Day 2, with a 7-4 win over New South Wales. Tom Galgey led the batting line up for SA with three runs, two hits and an RBI, while Nikolas Dawe gave up only four hits in seven innings pitched.

Day 2 Results:

Day 3 What to Watch For: Under 16 Men

With the draw now possibly compressed into two rounds, the remaining games tomorrow take on added importance. South Australia have closed the gap on NSW for second place, but the Blue Bloods have a game in hand, although one of their remaining games tomorrow is against the dominant Queensland outfit.

Victoria is also more competitive than their fourth placing suggests – the Big V have scored more runs and have had less scored against them than the third-placed croweaters. All teams will play in finals, but a double chance will be all important in such an evenly poised competition.
