Australia A showcased tremendous resilience and determination as they rebounded from a challenging opening day, securing their first win of the tournament with an impressive 5-0 scoreline against Greece. The team displayed remarkable teamwork, solid pitching, and timely hitting to secure a shutout victory.

Pitchers Steph Trzcinski and Millie Fidge combined forces to stifle Greece's offense, allowing a mere five hits throughout the game and maintaining a clean sheet. Trzcinski also made significant contributions with the bat, delivering multiple hits alongside Hirari Kurihara. Alyssa Mighell, Maddie Baker, Neve Adams, and Sara Riou drove in the crucial runs for Australia A, further bolstering their offensive success.

Although it took until the fourth innings for Australia A to get on the scoreboard, they quickly gained momentum, scoring two runs. In the fifth innings, they firmly established their dominance, adding three additional runs, solidifying their lead and putting the game out of Greece's reach.

This victory serves as a demonstration of the team's resilience and their ability to learn from previous challenges against world-class competition. Australia A's ability to bounce back showed incredible growth and sets a promising foundation for the remainder of the tournament.

The Australia Under-19 team showed incredible determination and composure, securing a thrilling 3-2 victory against the Bellingham Bash with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Facing a one-run deficit entering the final frame, Australia showcased their resilience in a captivating comeback.

The pivotal moment arrived when Angelique Iredale's ground ball allowed Soraya Hamson to score, leveling the game as she safely reached home plate. The team's comeback was sealed with Bianca Markham's single to right field. With great hustle, Hannah Scott raced home to score the winning run, igniting a jubilant celebration among the team and applauses from the crowd.

Pitching played a crucial role in the game, with both teams displaying strong performances. Australia's Jessica Smith and Mikayla Jankovic combined for an impressive ten strikeouts, with Smith recording six and Jankovic adding four to stifle the opposition's offense.

The victory exemplified the tenacity and teamwork of the Australia U-19 team, highlighting their ability to remain composed under pressure. This hard-fought win will undoubtedly serve as a confidence booster, motivating the team as they continue their journey in the tournament.

Australia Under-17 experienced a day of mixed results during day two of the tournament, with a commendable 13-2 win against Ridge Meadows Pride, followed by a 1-6 loss to the White Rock Renegades.

In the first game against Ridge Meadows, Australia U-17 displayed an early offensive surge, scoring four runs in the opening inning. While Ridge Meadows managed to respond with two runs in the top of the third, Australia U-17 quickly regained control, adding three runs in the same inning.

The game concluded at the bottom of the fourth as Australia U-17 secured the win with six additional runs. The team showcased their batting skills, amassing 13 hits, including notable contributions from Maddi Durnell, Kate Luyten, and Maya Gillies. Luyten and Gillies, along with Milla Durnell and Raine Eastcott, delivered multiple RBIs.

In the second game against the White Rock Renegades, Australia U-17 found runs harder to come by. The Renegades' pitchers, Gallamore and Morris, proved to be formidable opponents, tallying five and four strikeouts respectively. The game remained closely contested for most of the match, with Australia managing to tie the score at 1-1 with a run in the top of the fifth inning. However, White Rock swiftly responded with a significant five-run effort in their fifth inning, leaving the Aussies struggling to find an answer.

While the second game resulted in a loss, Australia U-17 will use this experience as a valuable learning opportunity to regroup, analyse their performance, and continue to grow and development throughout the tournament.

Junior Clinic

Prior to the start of today's play, the Australia A and Australia Under-17 teams were involved in conducting a Youth Clinic for local junior softballers. The involvement of both our Australian teams demonstrated true Australian spirit that forms the foundation of our culture in giving back to the softball community.
