The Australia A team had a challenging opening day of the tournament, facing formidable opponents Japan and the tournament hosts, Canada. Despite their best efforts, our team encountered tough competition, registering losses in both games.

In the first game, Australia A went head-to-head against a well-balanced Japan side. Japan showcased their offensive prowess, with six different players scoring runs throughout the game. Japan took an early lead, capitalizing on a strong second inning to secure four runs. Despite a valiant effort, Australia A fell short, as Japan emerged victorious with a final score of 7-0.

In the second game, Australia A found themselves facing a spirited Canadian team in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Canadian pitcher Sara Groenwegen delivered a stellar performance on the mound, demonstrating her skill by allowing zero runs on just one hit and recording an impressive eight strikeouts. Australia A fought hard, but they were unable to overcome the dominant Canadian team, resulting in a 9-0 loss.

Although the opening day of the tournament did not yield the desired outcomes for Australia A, there were valuable lessons to be learned from both games. Australia A will continue their tournament journey tomorrow, where they will face Greece. With a resilient spirit and a renewed focus, our team is eager to rebound and showcase their talent on the field.
