Australia will open the road to LA28, with Redcliffe set to crown the very first nation to qualify for the Olympic Games when the World Cup Finals arrive in April 2027.

With only 894 days until softball returns to the Olympic stage at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, the WBSC has confirmed the qualification pathway for the women’s softball tournament.

Six nations will compete in LA28, with five qualification spots available. Host nation USA has secured automatic qualification.

The first opportunity to qualify will come at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals in April 2027, hosted in Redcliffe, Brisbane, with the champion nation earning a place at the Olympic Games.

Three additional spots will be decided through continental qualification events in 2027. One team will qualify from each tournament across Asia/Oceania, Europe/Africa and the Americas, with each event featuring six teams. The continental quotas include the host nation.

The final qualification spot will be determined at a Last Chance Qualification Event, to be held no later than March 2028. The runner-up and third-placed teams from each continental qualifier will compete, with the winner claiming the final ticket to LA28.
