Published Tue 26 Aug 2025

Softball Australia is pleased to confirm that the U-23 Men’s National Team has secured its place at the 2026 WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup Finals. The team earned qualification through a strong performance at the WBSC Oceania World Cup Qualifier held in Palmerston North, New Zealand earlier this year.

The tournament presents a vital opportunity for these athletes to test themselves against the best international competition, gain valuable experience and further develop as elite-level players. Competing at this level not only showcases their talent but also allows them to carry forward Australia’s rich history of success and uphold the nation’s reputation in global softball.

For the U-23 Men’s team, qualification for the World Cup Finals represents more than just a tournament; it is a chance to represent their country with pride, build on Australia’s legacy in men’s softball and inspire the next generation of players aiming to follow in their footsteps.

Building Towards 2026

The U-23 Men’s Squad will kick off preparations for the World Cup with the Men’s Skins from 5 - 7 December 2025, followed by a focused Training Camp from 8 - 10 December 2025. These opportunities will allow players to showcase their skills, build cohesion and gain invaluable experience ahead of the 2026 finals, ensuring the squad is ready to perform at its best on the international stage.

Pathways Still Open

Opportunities remain open for other athletes to push their case for selection.

  • The Men’s Skins tournament in Canberra 5 - 7 December 2025 has been confirmed as a key selection event.
  • The 2026 age-eligible National Championships to be played early next year, will also be a key selection event.

This approach ensures that the most competitive group of players will represent Australia at the World Cup Finals.

Team Leadership

Softball Australia congratulates the officials who will lead the program into the next phase:

Scott Sunley, renowned for his tactical acumen will serve as Head Coach with Steven Macknak joining him as Assistant Coach bringing sharp insights and energy.

Kris Kiefel, stepping in as Battery Coach offers expert guidance to our pitchers and catchers while Tony Jackson, our Video Analyst ensures the squad benefits from game-changing tactical breakdowns. Andrea Mansfield, as Team Manager, brings exceptional organisational strength and unwavering support to the program, with Harry Pearce providing expert care and performance support in his role as Physiotherapist.

Together, this group blends experience, innovation and dedication qualities essential for guiding Australia’s U-23 Men’s team towards excellence on the global stage.
