Aussie Steelers Ready to Ignite at 2025 World Games

Published Sat 07 Jun 2025

Softball Australia is pleased to confirm the selection of the Australian Men’s National Softball Team – the Aussie Steelers – for the 2025 World Games, to be held in Chengdu, China, from 6–10 August 2025.

The World Games is a globally recognised multi-sport event showcasing sports that are not currently included in the Olympic Games. Organised by the International World Games Association under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee, the event represents one of the highest levels of international competition for men’s softball. It provides athletes with a rare opportunity to compete on a major multi-sport stage, among the best teams and athletes from around the world.

For the Aussie Steelers, participation in the World Games is a prestigious honour and an important benchmark within the national high-performance pathway. It offers a chance to test themselves against elite international opposition while reinforcing the program’s depth and long-term sustainability.

This year’s campaign is particularly notable, with the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals (8–14 July in Prince Albert, Canada) and the World Games (6–10 August in Chengdu, China) scheduled just weeks apart. The dual-events structure has allowed selectors to broaden the talent pool, reward form, and provide valuable international exposure to a wider group of athletes.

Steelers Head Coach Mike Titheradge is excited by the opportunity for the 2022 WBSC reigning world champions to debut at the World Games.

“I’m incredibly proud to lead our team into our debut appearance at the World Games. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the Steelers brand on a global stage and continue building our legacy.

Our focus for this campaign is on developing the next generation of Aussie Steelers. By giving our young and talented athletes the chance to compete at a major international event, we’re investing in the future of our program and setting the foundation for long-term success,” says Titheradge.

The World Games will provide the Steelers with a highly competitive environment to test their combinations, sharpen their execution, and proudly represent the green and gold against top-tier opposition.
