The Australia vs. China series follows the recent Softball Australia Cup, also held at Redlands, which saw the Aussie Steelers complete an undefeated campaignto claim the trophy. It marks an exciting time for softball fans in Australia, with world-class international events rounding out 2026 ahead of a blockbuster 2027.

That tournament will be the first Women’s Softball World Cup to be held on Australian soil since the inaugural edition in 1965 and will carry extra significance as the first opportunity to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Australia has a proud Olympic history in softball, winning medals in four of the five Olympics where the sport has featured.

Softball Australia’s General Manager – Game Development, Clare Walker, said the series would be an important opportunity for the national team and the wider softball community.

"We're excited to welcome China to Queensland for what promises to be a highly competitive international series,” Walker said.

"Playing quality international opposition is critical for our Aussie Spirit athletes ahead of next year’s World Cup, as well as on the road to LA28.
