Aussie Spirit Ready to Rise to the Challenge Ahead of USA Down Under Series

Published Wed 05 Nov 2025

With the countdown on to the highly anticipated USA Down Under Series, Aussie Spirit Head Coach Kerrie Porter says her team is ready to embrace the challenge of facing one of the world’s best right here on home soil.

Set to take place from December 31, 2025, to January 3, 2026, at Redlands Softball Association in Brisbane, the series will see the Aussie Spirit go head-to-head with the USA Women’s National Team – a powerhouse in international softball.

“Competing against the USA is always a special opportunity,” Porter said. “They are one of the most successful and consistent teams in international softball, and playing them on home soil gives us a chance to test ourselves against the best. I’m looking forward to seeing how we rise to the challenge, how we execute under pressure, and how we continue to build trust and our identity as a team. It’s also a great chance to showcase elite softball to Australian fans.”

With the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027 set to be held in Queensland, Australia, Porter said matchups like these play a crucial role in her squad’s development and preparation.

“Every game against a top-ranked opponent like the USA is a valuable learning experience,” she explained. “It exposes areas of growth, sharpens our game awareness and helps us build resilience. With the 2027 World Cup on home soil, these moments are crucial for developing the depth, cohesion and confidence we’ll need to compete at the highest level. It’s not just about results now, it’s about laying the foundation for long-term success.”

Australia hosted the first ever Women’s Softball World Cup in 1965, where they beat the USA to claim the inaugural world champions title. The event was the first women’s World Cup of any sport ever held in Australia. More than half a century later, the chance to welcome Team USA back carries special meaning for the softball community.

Porter also highlighted the significance of the home crowd and the energy it brings to the field.

“Home support can be a game changer,” she said. “There’s something incredibly powerful about playing in front of a passionate crowd that’s behind you every pitch. It lifts energy, motivates the players and creates a sense of pride and purpose. For many of our athletes, it’s a rare chance to represent Australia in front of family, friends and local fans. That connection can inspire performances that go beyond the tactical and technical – it taps into the heart of why we play.”

As the Aussie Spirit prepare to take on the USA, the series promises world-class softball, fierce competition, and a glimpse of what’s to come as Australia builds toward hosting the 2027 World Cup Finals.
