Aussie Spirit Connect with Alumni Ahead of Chinese Taipei Series
Published Sat 22 Nov 2025
The Aussie Spirit squad connected with alumni on Friday night, building momentum ahead of their upcoming 6-game series against Chinese Taipei to be hosted at Redlands Softball Association.
The event brought together past and present players to share stories, reflect on the team’s legacy, and welcome new squad members into the Spirit family. It aligned with 500 days to go until WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals 2027.
Alumni, including Janice Blackman, Kim Cooper, Chelsea Forkin, Stacey Porter, Kylie Rustin and Robyn Trewick shared their experiences, reflecting on the joy of celebrating teammates’ successes and the powerful connections created in high‑pressure moments of the game.
A formal jersey presentation was the centrepiece of the night with alumni presenting jerseys to the current squad, symbolising the passing of tradition and responsibility from one generation to the next.
As part of the presentation, uncapped Spirit squad members Sarah Beales, Nicole Connacher, Alyssa Mighell and Sara Riou received their first green and gold jersey.
Speaking after the presentation, Nicole Connacher reflected on the significance of the moment:
“Hearing from the alumni first and then receiving our jerseys was quite amazing. It's incredible how we are becoming part of a legacy and to see what had come before us, it’s very special to be part of that."
Spirit Head Coach Kerrie Porter noted the importance of the event in strengthening ties across generations of players, ensuring that the Spirit identity remains strong both on and off the diamond.
“Softball has a deep history in Australia. Connecting our alumni with the current team helps our athletes see that they’re not just playing for today, they’re carrying forward the history and pride of everyone who’s worn the green and gold before them."
The Aussie Spirit will now turn their focus to competition, with the opening game against Chinese Taipei on Saturday 22 November at 11:00am AEST. As a WBSC sanctioned event, world ranking points are on the line.
Fans are encouraged to attend and support the team, or watch all the action on newly launched Softball Australia TV.
