Call for Applications – Junior Steelers Assistant/Specialist Coaches for U-18 Men’s World Cup Team

The 2023 WBSC U18 Men’s Softball World Cup will be held in Hermasillo, Mexico, from 11- 19 November 2023. It is expected that the Australian U18 Men’s team will come together approximately two weeks prior to the commencement of the World Cup, for training and tournaments in the lead-up to the event.

There is also a training/selection camp for the Men’s U18 squad on 15th – 18th June 2023 in Sydney. Softball Australia will be shortlisting assistant/specialist coaches before this camp and inviting some to attend to support the running of this camp. It is desirable, but not essential, that applicants for these roles are available to attend this training/selection camp.

Softball Australia will be appointing 2-3 assistant/specialist coaches to support the Junior Steelers head coach. We are looking for coaches who are experienced in either assistant coaching or specialist coaching roles. Examples of specialist roles might be Offence / Defence / Scouting /Battery / Video analysis.

To be considered for these positions, applicants are required to:

  • Submit a formal application using the Application Form, answering all questions fully
  • Include a copy of their resume

The ideal candidates for this position will: 

  • Have a minimum of three years’ experience in preparing national level softball players and knowledge of contemporary trends in softball 
  • Have a good level of understanding of the standards and demands of national/international level sport 
  • Be skilled in communicating with young athletes to support them with their development    
  • Work well within a team of coaches and support staff  
  • Have experience in prioritising the long-term development of an athlete over short-term outcomes  

This is a volunteer position, however travel, accommodation and uniform costs for the coaches will be covered by Softball Australia. 

Coaches will be selected by a panel that includes: 

  • Clare Humberstone, Softball Australia National Pathways Manager  
  • Adam Rindfleish, Junior Steelers Head Coach 
  • Laing Harrow, Softball Australia Open and Pathway Head Coach
