USA DOWN UNDER: International Softball Series Coming to Brisbane in 2026
Published Wed 24 Sep 2025
Softball Australia is excited to announce that the powerhouse USA Women’s Softball Team will return to Australian shores for the first time in more than 25 years, headlining the USA Down Under International Softball Series in Brisbane from 31 December 2025 to 3 January 2026.
The four-day friendly international series will see Team USA face off against the Australian women’s team, the Aussie Spirit, at Redlands Softball Association in Ormiston, Queensland, giving fans a rare chance to witness world-class softball action right here at home.
This long-awaited visit marks the USA team’s first trip “down under” since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, where the Americans claimed gold, and where Australia memorably defeated the USA 2–1 in the bottom of the 13th innings to keep their Olympic medal hopes on home soil alive.
The series is a key stop in Team USA’s preparation for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027, which will also be hosted in Queensland. Softball is played in more than 129 countries, underscoring the sport’s growing global reach and the significance of these two softball superpowers meeting again on Australian soil.
Australia hosted the first ever Women’s Softball World Cup in 1965, where they beat the USA to claim the inaugural world champions title. The event was the first women’s World Cup of any sport ever held in Australia. More than half a century later, the chance to welcome Team USA back carries special meaning for the softball community.
“Many of our players and supporters have never seen world-class softball in person,” said Clare Walker, General Manager, Game Development, Softball Australia. “With most international games played overseas, this is an incredible opportunity for our athletes to perform in front of friends and family, and for our community to experience the very best of the sport right here at home.”
The upcoming USA visit and the WBSC World Cup Finals 2027 form an integral part of Softball Australia’s advocacy for softball and baseball’s inclusion as official sports at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Australia and the USA have long shared a spirited rivalry on the diamond—and Brisbane 2026 promises to add another exciting chapter.
