Four Potential Debutants Named in 2026 Softball Australia Cup Team
Softball Australia has announced the team selected for the 2026 Softball Australia Cup, with four athletes in line to make their senior international debuts as the program continues to build depth ahead of the 2027 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals.
The team reflects that ambition, with the new additions earning selection following strong performances across international games and the Gilley’s Shield Open Women’s National Championship. Their inclusion signals the strength of the national pathway and the growing pool of athletes pushing for senior opportunities.
Taylah Tsitsikronis also returns to the national line‑up, earning selection in her first Australian team since the Australia v China series in December 2024, following the birth of her child in August 2025.
The announcement follows a significant summer of softball across Australia, with athletes competing in an expanded calendar of domestic and international events. The surge in high‑quality gameplay has lifted performance standards across the program and reinforced our commitment to supporting athletes as they balance elite competition with work and study.
The Softball Australia Cup provides another valuable opportunity to build combinations and maintain competitive momentum.
Head Coach Kerrie Porter said the group represents an exciting blend of experience and new energy.
“The Softball Australia Cup is a critical part of our preparation for the World Cup cycle, building to the Group Stage in Prague this June. These five athletes have earned their opportunity through consistency, resilience, and a willingness to take their game to the next level. We’re looking forward to seeing how they respond to the international stage.”
Softball Australia CEO Sarah Loh said the series will play an important role in strengthening the national program.
“This event gives our athletes meaningful competition and gives fans another great chance to see the next generation of Aussie Spirit talent in action. We invite the community to show their support across the four-day series, as our last international event of the summer.”
The 2026 Softball Australia Cup will take place at Downey Park from Thursday 29 January – Sunday 1 February. The event will feature Aussie Spirit, New Zealand White Sox and Team Japan, in a round‑robin tri‑series, with three games played each day before culminating in a final between the top two teams to determine the winner of the 2026 Softball Australia Cup.
Fans can also enjoy a range of community and engagement activities, including a junior softball skills clinic hosted by the Aussie Spirit on Wednesday 28 January, photo and autograph opportunities with all teams, and the release of limited‑edition merchandise available both onsite and online.
