Softball Australia is pleased to announce a National Selection Camp to take place from 18 February – 3 March 2021 at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
Following the cancellation of the Gilley’s Shield, the National Selection Camp will provide the opportunity for athletes to impress selectors and secure a spot in the 2021 Travelodge Aussie Spirit squad vying for Olympic selection.
Australia’s best female softballers will take part in the camp conducted by the Softball Australia High Performance team, where they will be evaluated and take part in games to be hosted at the Hawker Softball Centre.
Players invited to the National Selection Camp include:
- The 2020 Travelodge Aussie Spirit Squad;
- Each Member State, in consultation with Travelodge Aussie Spirit Head Coach Laing Harrow, may nominate up to two players to attend the Camp (at the player/State’s expense); and
- Travelodge Aussie Spirit Head Coach to select up to 10 players who are either not in the 2020 squad and/or have not been selected by their State.
The camp aims to provide the most competitive games and environment to support the selection process of the Olympic squad.
With no National Championship taking place, providing the best opportunity for high-level competition is crucial in ensuring the Australian team is suitably prepared for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
Further to facilitating suitable competition, the camp will also provide an invaluable experience for emerging players to play and train alongside established Travelodge Aussie Spirit stars.
Players seeking clarification on the Member State nominated players should contact their relevant State office.
Further information, including the potential opportunity for fans to attend games, will be communicated as the schedule is finalised.
