Victory for CTI Aussie Pride in the Placement Final

The Australian U19 women have finished off the WBSC XI Junior World Championship winning the Placement Final against Chinese Taipei 5-4. This is a great result given CTI Aussie Pride were knocked out of the medal contention last Thursday. With a win against Italy 5-1 in the playoffs on Saturday, this led CTI Aussie Pride into the Placement Final.

The Placement Final victory for the CTI Aussie Pride girls was secured by Kalina Stepto who connected on a 3-run home run in the 6th inning for her second hit of the game.  Dorinda Stone led the Aussie offensive attack with 3 hits, 1 run batted in, as well as scoring 1 run.

The pitching was shared between Gabrielle Plain, Chantelle Ladner and Stephanie Trzcinski, but Gabrielle Plain had the biggest impact on the match. Pitching 4.2 innings, Plain made 4 strike outs and only allowed 2 hits and 1 run finishing the Championship with another great performance. Steph Trzcinski shut down the Chinese Taipei coming in to get the final two outs.

This marked the second win against Chinese Taipei in the Championship for CTI Aussie Pride. The girls won previously in round 2 with a monumental comeback, winning 7-6 in the 8th inning after trailing 6-1. The other victories for the Aussies in the Junior World Championship were a dominant win against Brazil 10-0, as well as defeating Italy twice. The Placement Final win finishes off a good effort by CTI Aussie Pride at the Junior Women’s Softball World Championship.
