Redlands Softball Association in Queensland will play host to the best up-and-coming talent in Australia, at the Under 23 National Softball Championships.
The tournament, which begins today and runs for four days through until Saturday (14 July), will feature seven teams in the female competition and five teams in the male competition.
Six states – ACT, Queensland, NSW, SA, Victoria and WA, will compete for the coveted Joyce Lester Shield. NSW will be looking to defend their title, after defeating Queensland in last year’s grand final.
There will also be an international flavour in the competition, with the state teams joined by a USA Combined Colleges team. The team that finishes on top of the ladder at the end of the round games will be awarded the Invitational Cup.
Five state teams will battle it out for the Laing Harrow Shield, awarded to the champion of the U23 Men’s competition.
Home state Queensland will be aiming to retain the Laing Harrow Shield, winning last year’s grand final over WA.
