Thousands of people enjoyed the 4.2km walk around Ivanhoe for the Olivia Newton John Wellness Walk that finished with the Ivanhoe Street Party on 4 October 2015.
Softball Australia helped to raise funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre by hosting a stall where kids and adults were able to practise their softball pitch by throwing a softball into a bucket. Everyone loved the pitching challenge and finding out more information about Social 7s, Softball Australia’s new slow-pitch version of softball that is fast, fun and easy to play.
The event was a huge success and has currently raised $139,635.14. The money will go towards the Cancer & Wellness Centre at the Austin Hospital, which combines leading medical treatment and research of international significance, integrated with the best of wellness care and support for cancer patients and their families.
The Cancer & Wellness Centre builds on the Austin Health cancer expertise in order to help provide the best in cancer care and research. A special feature is the wellness philosophy that underpins the whole approach of the centre by offering a full range of therapies such as massage, meditation, music and art therapy, to support people throughout their medical treatment.
Softball Australia was delighted to help raise funds for the Centre and be a part of such an inspiring cause. CEO of Softball Australia, Chet Gray expressed “it was a great day to get out into the community and see people’s interest in softball, while also supporting the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre”.
