Summer of Softball set as key dates confirmed

Softball Australia is pleased to announce the host venues and dates for the National Championships across Australia.

Following announcements from the WBSC in regards to new World Championship age categories, Softball Australia has made the following adjustments to the National Championships.

  • U19 will change to U18 National Championships
  • U17 will change to U16 National Championships
  • U15 Regionals will change to U14 Regional Championships

The change for the Esther Deason and Arthur Allsopp Shields, from Under 17 to Under 16 sees a return for these tournaments back to their original age group.

With the 2020 WBSC U18 Men’s Softball World Cup taking place from 22 February – 1 March, the Australian U18 Men’s National Championship will be held from 8-14 December 2019 to allow adequate time for Softball Australia to select and prepare the Junior Steelers team for the World Cup.

The race for the Gilley’s Shield will then kick off a month of National Championships in 2020 with Open Women and U14 Girls’ taking place at Mirrabooka WA from 4-10 January, while Victoria host the U16 Girls’ and Boys’ Championships at Waverley during the same week.

Hawker will again play host to the Open Men’s and U14 Boys’ Championships from 12-18 January while Blacktown International Sportspark will be the venue for the U18 Women’s Championship from 19-25 January.

“We’re looking forward to the upcoming Summer of Softball with the changes to the age groups set to provide us with every opportunity to select competitive teams for the WBSC World Championships moving forward,” said David Pryles, Chief Executive Officer at Softball Australia.
