Softball Australia has appointed statisticians who will accompany the Aussie Spirit and Junior Steelers to World Championships this year.
Rowena Whittle has been appointed to the Aussie Spirit staff for the XVI Women’s Softball World Championship in Chiba, Japan, from August 2-12.
And Jim Giles will be the Junior Steelers’ statistician when they head to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, for the WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championship from July 7-15.
Whittle, from New South Wales, is no stranger to the Aussie Spirit, having been the team’s statistician for the 2017 North American tour and the 2016 Japan Cup.
She has been a Level 4 scorer for more than 15 years, including appointments as Gilley’s Shield Official Scorer and National Championships at open and junior men’s and women’s events.
Giles, from Victoria, has broad experience as a team statistician at all levels and age groups, with male and female teams. He has been the Official or Team Statistician at 50 national events since 1997.
Most recently he was Chief Statistician at the 2018 Gilley’s Shield in Perth, and last year was Official Statistician at both the Under 19 Women’s National Championship in Perth and the Under 17 Boys in Canberra.
