Head Coach, Kere Johanson, confirmed that selections were made with the following objectives in mind:
- To reward those players who performed consistently in the crucial pitching position during Rounds 1 and 2 of the Gilley’s Shield
- To provide an opportunity for players to experience field positions not normally available to them within their own state teams (due to specific roles and responsibilities at that level)
- To assess eligible overseas based athletes one last time before the World Championship Team is named after Round 4 in February 2012
