Aussie Spirit finish third

The Aussie Spirit has been defeated by the United States 6 -1 in the play off of the 2011 Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch Women’s International Championship.
Australia defeated Canada 8-1 in the earlier match to progress through to the play off against the United States who had earlier been defeated by Japan.
Aussie Spirit started the match strongly with Stacey Porter scoring a home run in the bottom of the 1st innings. The United States hit back in the top of the 3rd innings with Rhea Taylor earning a run after being advancing to 2nd and scoring from the ensuring play after Stacey May-Johnson advanced to 2nd.
The United States put plenty of pressure on Aussie Spirit in the top of the 6th scoring three runs highlighted by a Brittany Schutte home run.
The United States are currently playing Japan in the final of the Canada Cup. At the bottom of the 3rd innings Japan are leading 6-0. To follow the progress of this game live statistics are being tracked by Pointstreak on the Canada Cup website.
Aussie Spirit now travel to Oklahoma to begin their World Cup of Softball campaign. Their first game is against the Czech Republic 10am Thursday (Central daylight time) which is 1am Friday (Australian Eastern Standard time).
