International Friendship Series: Day Three

Day Three of the Friendship Series was catch-up day after a rain affected Day Two.

Seven extra games were added to the schedule as the tournament survived a rain-free day to be back on track for Day Four scheduling. The boys’ round-games were completed while the girls’ ladder took shape before their last series of games on Thursday before finals.

Manaaki Aranui (NZ Emerging Sox) was at it again showing off some big hitting power to send another over the fence from his two at bats. Two hits, and five RBIs for Manaaki against the boys from Queensland in Game 13.

In a game that was contested by the top two teams this week, Layton Reid (Aussie Green) was phenomenal pitching a no hitter (10 SOs) in his four innings against the NZ Emerging Sox, handing them their one and only loss for the round games.

Queensland proved that they are a threat in this competition with a 10 – 2 win over Torrens Valley, a team that started the week on fire courtesy of a solid team batting performance. Gibbins, Smith and Starkey each knocking in two runs.

Nicky Martin (Waverley) made it two losses from two games for the Torrens Valley Redsox to assert Waverley as serious contenders. Nicky, with help from her teammates in the field, kept the Redsox scoreless over seven innings to win 5 – 0.
