Get active and help fight kidney disease

Softball Australia and Kidney Health Australia share common goals: to promote a healthy lifestyle through sport and to help prevent kidney disease.

With that in mind, the two organisations have joined forces to boost awareness about the important benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle.

To help spread that message, Softball Australia is getting behind the Big Red Kidney Walk, which is held in several Australian cities in September.

Kidney disease affects an estimated 1.7 million Australians. Sadly, 60 Australians die with kidney-related disease every day.

The sixth annual Big Red Kidney Walk on Sunday 10 September invites people to walk together, in support of those affected by kidney disease. With one in three Australians at increased risk of disease, this is your chance to make a real difference in raising awareness and funds for kidney health.

Kidney Walk.

Wear red and help fight kidney disease at the Big Red Kidney Walk.

Walks will be held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Launceston, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. If these cities aren’t nearby, consider hosting your own walk — the Kidney Health Australia website has all the information to make it happen.

There will be games, entertainment and food outlets, along with a number of walk options to suit all participants. So gather your friends, family, colleagues and dogs to sign up and have fun for a great cause.

The dress code is red, and there will be prizes awarded on the day for the best-dressed teams and individuals, so don’t be afraid to get creative.

You’ll have fun, enjoy a healthy walk and know that you are helping raise much-needed funds for research into kidney disease.

Softball Australia members receive a 50 per cent discount if they register by the end of July. After that, standard entry prices apply (Individual $20, team of 10 $100, kids aged 12 and under and dogs free).

The partnership between Softball Australia and Kidney Health Australia came about because both organisations have shared values and are committed to the principles of:

  • active and healthy living
  • diversity and inclusion
  • cooperation and collaboration
  • transparency and accountability
  • innovation and flexibility.

In a Memorandum of Understanding, Softball Australia and Kidney Health Australia said they shared a vision of preventing disease through adopting healthy lifestyles. “Both organisations are at similar stages of maturity, and both organisations recognise the value of forming strong business partnerships with businesses who share the same vision and values.”
