Finals Wrap, Day 4 – Under 23 National Championships, Redlands

Despite a rain affected Day 3, where games were unfortunately abandoned, the four-day tournament was a great success and finished with two outstanding grand final games. Saturday evening saw NSW defeat Queensland in a riveting tiebreaker (4-2) in the women’s final to take back the Joyce Lester Shield. The men’s final also went the distance as Queensland claimed the Laing Harrow Shield (5-3), denying WA what would have been a long awaited National Championship Shield.

A strong pitching performance from Chantelle Ladner (NSW) earned her the player of the grand final award, as she made some clutch pitches in the final stages. James Purcell (Qld) demonstrated some exceptional batting, with a solid fielding performance to compliment in a dominant game earning him the player of the grand final in the men’s.

The invitational cup – awarded to the highest place team at the end of the round games – was handed to the NZ Major Sox after they went undefeated throughout the tournament.
