Softball Australia is committed to building partnerships with disability organisations, nationally, that assist people with a disability to be a part of sport and allow individuals to enjoy the true essence of sports participation.

SportsCONNECT – Australian Sports Commission

SportsCONNECT a national framework that develops pathways for people with a disability to get involved in sport, by creating and developing relationships between National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) and disability organisations.

 

Softball Australia is 1 of 24 NSOs involved in Sports CONNECT program. Through this program Softball Australia developed an Inclusive Coaching Module to provide coaches with information that will assist them coach people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. 

 

There has also been a compilation of information (Softball for all Abilities) put together on this website to provide Clubs and Associations with strategies to assist in getting people with a disability involved in Softball.

Special Olympics Australia

Special Olympics Australia (SOA) is a not-for-profit organisation that transforms the lives of people with an intellectual disability through sport. SOA have almost 4,000 athletes taking part in over 250 sports clubs across metropolitan and regional Australia.

 

Special Olympics offer the opportunity for their athletes to just have fun or aspire to compete at state, national (SOA National Games) and international competition (SO World Games).

 

Softball is one of 14 official sports that SOA offers to its athletes. Softball Australia partners with Special Olympics Australia (SOA) to provide opportunities to build capacity and promote awareness in order to offer Softball opportunities to people with an intellectual disability. Softball Australia has developed in partnership with SOA a Memorandum of Understanding.

 

In 2007 the Special Olympics national Softball side won Gold at the Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai, China and will aim to do the same in 2011 Special Olympics World Games in Athens, Greece.
