Results in the final round of competition games saw Victoria narrowly defeat SA placing them into 4th spot following the loss of WA to Queensland. NSW’s one run win over the ACT meant it maintained it’s second placing leaving Queensland with 3rd spot. The ACT had already claimed top spot.
The tables turned in the rematch between the 1st placed ACT and 2nd placed NSW. In another thrilling game the ACT managed to defeat NSW 2 runs to 1. Hayden Mathews got NSW off to a flying start with a home run in the top of the first innings. NSW maintained this narrow lead until the bottom of the 4th innings when Andrew Kirkpatrick scored a 2 run home run. The score remained at 2 runs to 1 for the remainder of the game. The win has progressed the ACT directly into the grand final which commences at 4pm on Saturday 14 January.
The battle between 3rd and 4th was another thrilling game. Tyrell Priestly got things rolling for Queensland with a 2 run home run in the bottom of the third. Victoria’s George Psimaris‘s homer in the 4th reduced the lead to 1 run; however Queensland replied with 5 runs in the 5th inning including a home run to Josh Wagner and a 3 run homer to Adam Pearce. No time to relax for Queensland as the Victorian bats got cracking in the 6th innings to score 6 runs and tie the game up at 7 all. Unfortunately for Victoria a Marshall Kronk home run in the bottom of the 6th to put Queensland up 8 runs to 7 and this was the last score of the game.
