Under 17 Boys – Day 1

The Under 17 male contingent got underway on Monday afternoon at Hawker International softball centre to kick off two big weeks over in Canberra for men’s softball.

Day 1 saw mixed results, with NSW the only team to claim two victories for the day of play, defeating SA (7 – 0) and Qld (2 -1). All teams beside Vic notched their first wins for the tournament, with hosts ACT having two very contrasting results late in the day – scoring 11 runs against the ‘Vics’ in Game 5 to only later concede 24 runs against Qld in a lopsided affair.

Standout Individual Performances

Layton Reid (Qld) had 5 RBI’s in his teams 24 – 4 victory to give the hosts a shock going into day 2. The team piled on 12 runs in the first, 10 in the second and 2 in the third to close out the game early.

Bradley Kilpatrick (NSW) backed up the solid NSW offensive unit with a 5 inning performance against SA that earned no runs and only a single hit.
