The Aussie Spirit’s much-anticipated game against hosts Japan at the XVI Women’s Softball World Championship will be played at 9pm Thursday after being postponed because of bad weather.
An alert from the World Baseball Softball Confederation on Wednesday night said: “It has not been possible to play in Akitsu Stadium. The final game of the day between Japan and Australia was the only one scheduled but has been cancelled due to a typhoon alert.”
The typhoon was expected to hit overnight, with evacuations in low-lying areas around Chiba.
The game between Japan and Australia was to have been a battle between the two top teams in Pool B. Japan is unbeaten in the pool, while the Aussie Spirit have lost only one game.
That defeat came against China, who were beaten by Italy in an early game today before the rains came.
Scheduled games at other venues between the Philippines-New Zealand, Venezuela-Great Britain and Netherlands-South Africa were also postponed.
