Aussie Spirit and U19 Men going to World Championships

North America is once again the host for the 2016 World Softball Championships.  The 15th WBSC Women’s World Softball Championship will take place in Surrey, BC Canada – a suburb of Vancouver – while the U19 Men’s team will participate in the 11th WBSC Junior Men’s World Softball Championship hosted by Softball USA at Midland, Michigan.

OPEN WOMEN, AUSSIE SPIRIT

Aussie Spirit LogoAussie Spirit will have an extended tour in 2016.  The women depart the USA early July to allow time to adjust to the North America time zones and play in the XI World Cup of Softball at Oklahoma City, OK, USA.  The Spirit have four medals from previous World Cup tournaments.  Once the World Cup concludes, the team heads to beautiful Vancouver, Canada for the World Championship.  The tournament is an open event this year with over 30 countries expected to enter.  The action starts on 15 July with the world champion crowned on 24 July.  This will be an extremely important tournament for the Spirit as the sport of softball prepares for the IOC announcement that could place softball back into the Olympics for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo.  This announcement will take place on the eve of the 2016 Rio Summer Games.  The Spirit conclude their world travels with the Japan Cup in September.  This tournament is another preview event for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
