At the Softball Australia Annual General Meeting on 13 October 2018, David Casey was announced recipient of the 2018 Vivienne Triplett Umpire of the Year Award.

David consistently demonstrated a high level of officiating during the past year and in recognition of his skills, he was appointed to three international tournaments, beginning with the 2017 Canada Cup.
He was rewarded with his performance by being appointed to officiate in medal games at both the 2017 Japan Cup and 2018 Asia Pacific Cup.
At the national level, David officiated at the 2018 John Reid Shield, where he was appointed as Plate umpire for a semi-final game.
David’s appointment to state events in his home State, Queensland included two Umpire-In-Chief positions and two State Championships.
David is highly respected by his peers and wears his Blues uniform with pride. He is professional and respectful when conversing with players, team management and other umpires.
David strives to improve umpiring effectively through his participation in the National Umpiring Program in the various roles he undertakes. He has been an umpire for more than 30 years. He holds positions on Wynnum Association committee, SQI Umpiring Technical Directorate and SQI Events Committee and he developed the framework for the Levels 2 – 5 SQI Umpiring Mentoring Program.
Such is David’s passion for the sport and umpiring, that he gives freely of his time to assist his fellow umpires, helping them achieve their umpiring goals, umpires at many local associations in Queensland and actively promotes the game whenever he can.
