2018 Australian U17 Boys’ Squad

Softball Australia is pleased to announce the 2018 Australian U17 Boys’ Squad.

The squad will attend the 2018 International Friendship Series training camp and competition, to be held at Redlands Softball Association in Queensland. The camp will be held from 6-8 July and competition from 9-13 July.

Last month, the World Baseball Softball Confederation announced the launch of their new ‘Softball World Cup’ flagship brand. As part of this announcement, there was news that the U-19 Men’s Softball World Cup would launch in 2021, with no Junior Men’s World Championship in 2020. The U-19 Men’s Softball World Cup will be played every two years thereafter (ie. 2023, 2025 etc).

Despite the news that there will be no Junior Men’s World Championship in 2020, Softball Australia has decided to still name an U17 Boys’ Squad for this year. 19 of the 31 players selected will be eligible for the 2021 World Cup.

For those players not eligible in 2021, the Friendship Series is still an important opportunity for them to continue their development in the player pathway. As the future of the sport, they will be vying for selection in future Aussie Steelers teams.
