Softball Australia today announces the Aussie Spirit team that will compete in the XVI Women’s Softball World Championship in Chiba, Japan.
Facing the most challenging year in their history, the 2018 Aussie Spirit team consists of 17 players, seven of whom did not play in the previous World Championship in Canada in 2016.

Four players – Amelia Cudicio, Samantha Poole, Tarni Stepto and Tamieka Whitefield – will be playing in an Open Women’s World Championship for the first time.
Since softball was reinstated as an Olympic sport in August 2016, this will be the first World Championship that will potentially also serve as an Olympic qualifying event.
Aussie Spirit Head Coach Fabian Barlow is confident selectors have chosen the best possible team to do well in Japan from August 2-12.
“I’m extremely comfortable the players that have been given this honour will stand up and accept the challenges that come with competing against the world’s best teams,” Barlow says.
“In saying that, it’s important we remember we also are one of the best teams in the world and we back ourselves against anyone on any given day.”
